New Hope Celebrates Presents The 7th Annual Pride Week & Parade...
“It’s a Family Affair,” is the theme for the seventh annual New Hope Celebrates Pride parade, which will amble, toot and trot down Ferry and So. Main Streets in the borough on May 15. The parade will be filled with music from bands, floats, flag-twirlers, Mummers, colorful entertainers, families and many friends of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and allied community. It is the cornerstone of a week long celebration, May 11-16, which is geared toward activities for everyone.
“You don’t have to be OUT to be IN!” shouts this year’s NHC T-shirt slogan and the activities scheduled for Pride week speak to that notion. In addition to the big parade, there is a family picnic and softball game, a movie night, history and art walking tours, a sponsors “crawl” throughout town, a vendor fair, and parties galore. Restaurants and bars throughout the borough will feature LGBT entertainers and galleries are displaying works from notable gay and lesbian artists.
“Although it is a gay pride festival planned and enacted by LGBTA community members, it is also a celebration of the many, many pleasurable aspects in a grand and diverse town, county and it’s inhabitants,” said Daniel Brooks, President of New Hope Celebrates. “It is the beginning of spring and retailers in the borough have the opportunity to show off their wares. Visitors to the area come to the festival from all over the region and spend the weekend enjoying every aspect of it from recreational activities to really fun parties. It is a chance for the community to show the world why we love our town and welcome all to share it’s wealth of resources. It’s a real ‘family affair’”
New Hope Celebrates is an all-volunteer non-profit LGBT marketing organization with 501(c)3 status. It’s mission is to hold and promote activities that are of interest to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community in an effort to stimulate tourism in the New Hope/Bucks County area. NHC often uses revenue from their activities to administer grants to LGBT service organizations.
